Disaster Relief

Joseph Storehouse - Disaster reliefA vital element of our medical relief work goes beyond our borders, aiding victims of natural disasters with emergency medical supplies.

At the JST we responded quickly to the urgent requests by the Israeli Disaster Field Doctors heading to Haiti with medical aid for thousands of those who have been injured as a result of the recent earthquake.

Despite the great distance, the Israeli Military Field Hospital personnel and the Hatzalah Rescuers Without Borders were among the first of the international teams to reach the Haitian disaster and, moreover, the Israeli team proved to be among the most efficient in rescuing people trapped under collapsed buildings and in providing field surgery and assistance to the wounded.

“The Israelis who have a lot of battle field experience have great Battle Field Hospitals and I am profoundly grateful to them, and I think they have done a great job.” Bill Clinton – UN Special Envoy to Haiti visits Israel Field Hospital

It warms our hearts when we know that we can be of any kind of help at this time. I think it is just amazing that we can reach out thousands of miles away from here and be effective in saving people’s lives.

Michael at Hatzalah Volunteer has worked with the JST since the Asian Tsunami of 2004 when we provided similar medical assistance to survivors in Sri Lanka:

“As soon as we heard about the earthquake in Haiti we sent out Israeli rescue teams to that country together with all the rescuer's equipment and supplies we had in store and that we were able to acquire. Our Hatzala team consisted of 25 volunteers in Haiti. TV and media coverage from around the world have shown how our volunteers succeeded in saving many out of the rubble and were assisting with the Israeli Military Field Hospitals. The containers supplied by the JST contain items like sterile medical bedding, vital medicines and oxygen tents and masks, everything that helps a Field Hospital in its work, like sterile gloves for example. These containers have items that are critical. I have to say thank you to the JST for all the help and assistance that goes to our Israeli Field Hospitals in Haiti.” Michael, Hatzalah Volunteer
